 Oiled

Oiled vs Lacquered

When choosing engineered wood flooring, the finish you select plays a big role in how your floor looks, feels, and handles daily wear. Oiled engineered flooring is treated with natural oils that sink deep into the wood pores. This gives the floor a very natural, matte, and authentic wood feel that lets you experience the true texture of the timber. While it requires a bit more regular maintenance and occasional re-oiling, the great thing is that you can easily repair small scratches or scuffs by just applying a little oil to the damaged spot without having to redo the whole floor. Lacquered engineered flooring, on the other hand, is coated with a clear, protective varnish that sits on top of the wood. This creates a smooth, sealed surface—available in finishes ranging from ultra-matte to high-gloss—that forms a strong shield against spills, dirt, and daily wear. It is very low maintenance and great for busy areas, but if the surface gets a deep scratch, repairing it usually requires sanding and re-coating a larger area rather than just a quick local fix. In short, oiled flooring offers a natural, tactile feel with easy spot repairs, while lacquered flooring gives you strong, low-maintenance surface protection.
